Standing with the Salgado family. Standing with our community.

Amigos de los Salgado is a community coalition formed in memory of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo. We stand alongside his family — pursuing accountability, honoring his life, and building a community where every family is protected.

Who We Are

Neighbors, families, and friends — organized

We are neighbors, friends, and organizers who came together after the death of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, following an ICE enforcement encounter. What began as several smaller groups has united into one coalition with a single purpose: to stand with the Salgado family and make sure our community is never left to face this alone.

We are advocates for the family, not spokespeople for them. The family's voice leads; we amplify it, organize around it, and carry the work forward with them.

Remembering Lorenzo

To his family, Lorenzo was quiet, everyday love — the father who came home exhausted from a day's work and still showed up to watch his son's activities, who worked hard so his son wouldn't have to. He is remembered not for how he was taken, but for how he lived.

Lorenzo's Story

Nearly 35 years of building Houston

Lorenzo Salgado Araujo lived and worked in the United States for nearly 35 years, doing the manual labor that builds a city — helping raise homes for Houston families. He had no criminal record, and he was in the process of pursuing legal status.

On the morning of July 7th, he left to pick up his construction crew, as he did every day — and never came home. The medical examiner's office has ruled his death a homicide. The ICE agents involved were not wearing body cameras.

That is why we are calling on city council and lawmakers for an independent investigation, and for the Lorenzo Salgado Araujo Act — closing the accountability gaps his case exposed: body-camera requirements, medical response standards, evidence disclosure, and witness protections.

The values he leaves behind

Lorenzo's son, Ronaldo, has shown the empathy and leadership his father instilled since childhood — before turning 15, he launched an anti-cyberbullying campaign at his school. The love Lorenzo gave quietly, every day, lives on out loud in his son and in this community.

Our Goals

What we're working toward

Support the Salgado family

Fundraisers, supply drives, and everyday solidarity — plus helping the family establish a nonprofit foundation to carry this work forward.

Accountability through law

Advancing the Lorenzo Salgado Araujo Act and pressing city council and lawmakers for an independent investigation — body-camera requirements, medical response standards, evidence disclosure, and witness protections.

Honor Lorenzo's memory

Memorials, murals, and bringing Lorenzo's story into school curriculum — so his life is remembered, not just his loss.

One united coalition

Uniting organizer groups into a single movement — coordinating press, media, and allied organizations so our community speaks with one clear voice.
